André Moisan débute létude de la clarinette avec son Depuis 1977, on peut lentendre régulièrement en concert et à la radio, tant comme soliste que chambriste. Ses nombreux concerts à létranger, notamment à Carnegie Hall, au Royal Concertgebouw et à Radio-Berlin, lui ont valu de se classer parmi les interprètes de premier plan, grâce à sa maîtrise de linstrument, sa grande musicalité et la clarté de son jeu. M. Moisan a eu le privilège de jouer sous la direction de chefs réputés, principalement avec lOrchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Il faisait dailleurs ses débuts avec cet orchestre en 1977 sous la direction de Andrew Davis et en 1997 comme soliste sous la baguette de Charles Dutoit. Il y occupe le pupitre de saxophone solo et clarinette basse depuis mai 1999. Co-fondateur des Vents de Montréal avec le regretté Bruce Bower, il a aussi fondé un des rares choeurs de clarinettes au Canada, le Choeur de clarinettes de lUniversité de Montréal. Animateur et pédagogue accompli, il dirige lOSM depuis deux André Moisan enseigne actuellement à lUniversité de Montréal, lUniversité Laval ainsi quau Centre dArts Orford pendant la saison estivale. Lannée 1996 marque lenregistrement de son premier disque solo, "Impressions de France", acclamé par la critique internationale et son deuxième album solo consacré à la musique dinspiration folklorique est paru en mars 1999. On le retrouve aussi dans la toute récente parution de lintégrale de la musique de chambre de Francis Poulenc chez Naxos. Il prépare actuellement un album de musique de chambre consacré à la musique dAdolphe Blanc, dont la sortie est prévue à lautomne 2000.
Andre Moisan began studying the clarinet with his father, who was clarinetist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 1952 to 1998. He continued his training with Robert Crawley, also principal clarinet at the MSO, as well as in Chicago with Larry Combs, principal clarinet with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and finally in Berlin with Karl Leister. Since 1977, Andre Moisan has appeared regularly in concert and on radio as a soloist and chamber player. His numerous concerts abroad - Carnegie Hall, Royal Concertgebouw, and Radio-Berlin - have established him as a leading performer with consummate mastery of the instrument, impressive musicality and clarity of playing. His repertoire reflects his strong interest in contemporary music, yet also remains faithful to the classics. Mr. Moisan has had the privelege of working under renowned conductors, principally with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. In fact, he made his debut with this orchestra in 1977 under Andrew Davis and in 1997 as soloist with Charles Dutoit. He is presently bass clarinet and saxophone soloist with the MSO. In addition to performing in concert and recital, Andre Moisan is interested in conducting and specializes in the repertoire for large wind ensemble. Cofounder with the late Bruce Bower of the ensemble Les Vents de Montreal, he also founded one of Canada's rare clarinet choirs, the Choeur de clarinettes de l'Universite de Montreal. He also conducted the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 1998 and will conduct 7 concerts this coming season. An accomplished communicator and pedagogue, Andre Moisan currently teaches at the University of Montreal, Laval University, as well as during summer sessions at the Orford Arts Centre. The year 1996 marked the release of his first solo recording, Impressions from France, which received international critical acclaim. His second solo CD, devoted to music of folk inspiration, released in April 1999 also received international recognition. He can also be heard in chamber music on the recent NAXOS release of Francis Poulenc's complete works. |
