Alf S. Houkom

Alf Houkom is a resident of Corrales, New Mexico. A native of Minnesota, and formerly on the music faculty of Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, he resigned from that position a few years ago to pursue a career as a composer. He has received a number of commissions including those from the Dale Warland Singers (underwritten by the Jerome Foundation), the Frances Johnson Pyle Commission Award sponsored by the Iowa Composers Forum, and one for youth pianist and youth orchestra sponsored by five member states of the Music Teacher's National Association.

Houkom's music is published by Walton, Boosey & Hawkes, Lawson-Gould, and Concordia. It has been recorded by the Dale Warland Singers and the Gregg Smith Singers. His work in progress includes an extended piece for guitar quartet and several choral anthems and arrangements. He is a member of ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, and The American Music Center.
