Over the years, the concert band has earned the reputation of being among the finest of its kind in the world. The band has performed at major performance facilities in the eastern United States, including Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood. They have appeared with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra, under the batons of Zubin Mehta, William Steinberg, Leopold Stokowski and Arturo Toscanini. The band has been seen on numerous network television shows, and was featured in the PBS television special and accompanying compact disc and tape called "Songs of the Civil War".

Such world-famous composers as Robert Russell Bennett, Darius Milhaud, Morton Gould, Percy Grainger and Vaclav Nelhybel have dedicated compositions to the U.S. Military Academy Band. The concert band has performed many premiers, including the 1979 American staging of Meyerbeer's opera Il Crociato in Egitto and the 1992 Lincoln Center debut of Henry Brant's Hidden Hemisphere 500, both of which featured the band.

The U.S. Military Academy Band's performance schedule is highlighted by its Music from the Concert Hall series, presented from September through May in Eisenhower Hall at West Point. Over the years, these performances have included appearances by such renowned guest artists as Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic; violinist Chee Yun; pianist Leon Bates; bass Jerome Hines; and actress Helen Hayes. The Chamber Music Series, which runs concurrently, features solo and small ensemble works presented by members of the band. In the summer months, Music Under the Stars carries on the grand tradition established in an earlier age and greatly adds to the cultural activities of the Hudson Valley and the New York Metropolitan area. The band's performances annually attract many thousands of people to the academy to hear the finest in concert band literature.
