Mr. O'Riordan was the winner of the 1994 Competition in Music Performance at BGSU and finished second in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs' Agnes Fowler Competition. He has appeared as soloist with the Montview Chamber Orchestra, the Colorado Christian University Wind Ensemble, the Timberline Symphony Orchestra, the Boulder Concert Band, the Mostly Strauss Orchestra, and the Bowling Green Philharmonia. In addition, he has made numerous recital performances with his wife, pianist Holly Roadfeldt-O'Riordan. In 1993, he took part in the premiere of John Cage's FoUR5 (one of Cage's final pieces) at the 10th World Saxophone Congress in Pesaro, Italy. Mr. O'Riordan, in collaboration with Ms. Roadfeldt-O'Riordan, has commissioned and premiered 14 new works for saxophone and piano.

As a composer, his music has been performed in Europe as well the United States by some of the world's great young performers. His music has been commissioned and performed by faculty of the BGSU College of Musical Arts, the Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet, and Brecksville United Methodist Church. Mr. O'Riordan was the 1996 Commissioned Composer of the Colorado State Music Teachers Association. Recently, his Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra was premiered by Russell Peterson at the 1998 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference. His first saxophone quartet, Scenes from Macbeth, was featured on a tour Italy and Cypress by the Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet and was broadcast on Cypress National Television. His Temptation for solo bassoon was performed in Moscow, Russia and at the 1996 International Double-reed Society World Convention by bassoonist Jeffrey Lyman (professor of bassoon at Arizona State University). Kirk has composed pieces in both acoustic and electronic media, among them large works for orchestra, wind ensemble, chorus, and several chamber pieces.

After graduating in 1994 from BGSU, Mr. O'Riordan moved to Colorado where he serves as Instructor of Saxophone at Colorado Christian University. In addition, he maintains a large private studio. He has appeared as ensemble saxophonist with the Timberline Symphony Orchestra, the Longmont Symphony Orchestra, the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra, the South Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and the Rocky Mountain Symphony, and as principal saxophonist of the Boulder Concert Band. Currently, Mr. O'Riordan is pursuing a third Master of Music degree: in conducting at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. At Lamont he served as assistant conductor for the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and the Lamont Wind Ensemble, and as assistant conductor for the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is in his second season as assistant conductor for the Timberline Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared as guest conductor of the Timberline Symphony Orchestra, the Lamont Percusiion Ensemble, and the Boulder Concert Band. He has also conducted the Music Plus Youth Wind Ensemble (BGSU), and co-directed the BGSU Saxophone Ensemble.
