| Susan McKenzie studied at the Royal College of Music with Stephen Trier and Kyle Horch where she won the Jane Melber Memorial Prize in 1991,1992, and 1994. She recently completed a years advanced studies with Richard Ingham (Northern Saxophone Quartet) and has also studied with Eugene Rousseau at the Fourth Hamamatsu International Wind Instrument Academy and Festival, Japan (July 1998). Susan is a past winner of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society Young Performers Competition (1994) and performed the Glazunov Concerto with the New Symphony Orchestra.
As well as performing in England, Scotland and the USA, Susan has been an invited solo recitalist at both the Third and Fifth British Saxophone Congress ( Wakefield 1994 and London 1998) and is also a member of the newly formed British Saxophone Choir. Since May 1998 she has been part of the Yehudi Menuhin's "Live Music Now!" scheme with award-winning pianist Fiona Kelsall and was a woodwind finalist in the Royal Overseas League Competition (London, Feb. 1999). Susan now teaches at the City of Edinburgh Music School as well as taking masterclasses at St. Andrews University. During the years 1990 -1995 Katherine Rockhill studied at the Royal College of Music where she studied the piano with John Barstow. Katherine was a Foundation Scholar, Major Prize-winner and Junior Fellow at the college, and on graduating she won the College's most prestigious award, the Tagore Gold Medal. Tours have included those with saxophonist Eugene Rousseau, trumpeter Rod Franks and flautist Susan Milan with whom she has toured all over the world including Australia, South Korea and the United States of America. Katherine has appeared on BBC Television, BBC Radios 2, 3 and Classic FM. She is also official accompanist for Yamaha at all major conventions and has given recitals as part of a duo in the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. |

| The Bach Partita was originally for flute
Fuzzy Bird Sonata was written for virtuoso Nobuya Sugawa in 1991, this is part of Yoshimatsu's continuing Bird series. "Sing, bird" is a thoughtful improvisation between two dazzling outer movements. The influences of bird song, folk melodies and jazz can be heard and the saxophone uses contemporary techniques such as glissandi and the altissimo register. Sonatine was written in 1948 and dedicated to Marcel Mule. Claude Pascal's Sonatine opens with a joyful declaration leading to a flourishing cadenza. There is a moment of brief repose interrupted by the vivacious ending. |
