| An Australian saxophonist, Michael Duke completed his Undergraduate work at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University with Honours under the instruction of Graeme Shilton. As a performer in Australia, Michael has performed with such orchestras as The Australian Chamber Orchestra, The Melbourne Symphony, The Victorian State Orchestra, The Australian Philharmonic Orchestral Pops Orchestra and Chamber Made Ensemble. In 1997 he accepted a position in Distinguished Professor Eugene Rousseau's saxophone studio at Indiana University to study at the Masters level. Now having completed the Master's Degree Michael is currently pursuing a Doctorate under Dr Rousseau as an Associate Instructor.
Karl Hartman is from Kendallville, Indiana and received his Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance at Indiana University. A specialist on baritone saxophone, Karl has performed at the 1997 MTNA National Conference, the1998 North American Saxophone Alliance National Conference, and in December 1999 participated in the consortium world premier of Trio for baritone saxophone, violin, and piano by Phanos Dymiotis. Karl will also perform at the 2000 World Saxophone Congress in Montreal. Karl was a member of the Indiana All-State Honor band in 1991 and was nominated for a Performer's Certificate at Indiana University for his November 1998 Master's degree recital. |

| Fragmented Spirit was written during the Summer of 1998 by Indiana University doctoral student Stacy Garrop. It was premiered at Indiana University by Steven Stussek and soon after performed at conference five of the North American Saxophone Alliance. | |||||||||
