Duo Cuypers / Lop
"Inquestionable creativity and veritable communication"
Francesc Taverna Bech, composer

The duo Carola Cuypers (saxophone) and Enrique M. Lop (guitar) was formed in 1994 in Switzerland. The unusual duo was invited at international music festivals and gave concerts and masterclasses in Europe and the United States.

Because of the intimite and surprising sound combination, some outstanding and prestigious composers have written pieces for them, contributing so to fill a gap in the reperoire for saxophone and guitar. This resulted in their CD "Different Worlds", on the Erasmus label (WVH 237), released in May 1998, with presentations in the Cobra-museum of contemporary art at Amsterdam and the Tapies-museum at Barcelona. "An integrated whole of rhythms, timbre changes, slaps and key clicks on the saxophone, knockings and Bartok pizzicatos on the guitar, players' talking, stamping, etc.; a colourist variety produced by the guitar and the saxophone playing in harmony, challenging the players up to the limit. Close co-operation of both performers clearly gives the music an additional dimension".

"The interpretation, splendid in all the pieces, shows clearly un dominio of the instrument, as well as technique as interpretatively"
– Revista Musical Catalana

Carola Cuypers
"Structual surveyability connected with elegant virtuosity and sonorous elasticity"
– Basler Zeitung

Already at a young age Carola Cuypers has won many national competitions, which gave her the possibility to record with Eurosound and to collaborate with the Dutch radio and television.

Her professional studies she realized at the "Hoge School der Kunsten, Utrecht" (The Netherlands) with Ed Bogaard, André Hemmers en the maestro Iwan Roth, obtaining the diplomas "Uitvoerend Musicus" en "Docerend Musicus" with the qualification "Cum Laude". In 1992 she obtained the highest diploma of the "Musik-Akademie Basel" (Switzerland), the "Solisten-Diplom", studying with the maestro Iwan Roth. This study was made possible by the "Prins Bernhard Foundation" and the sponsoring of "Machine Fabriek Figée, Haarlem". Her interest in the contemporary music conducted her to the "Electronic Studio Basel" where she experimented with saxophone and live-electronics.

As a soloist she played in the "Concertgebouw" in Amsterdam, the "Philips-zaal" in Eindhoven and the "Stadt-Casino" in Basel with the Basler Sinfonie Orchester, conducted by Harri Rodmann and in ensembles in numerous countries of Europe: Germany, Belgium, France, Hungary etc.

Enrique M. Lop, spanish concertist and pedagogue of guitar. At the "Conservatorio Superior Oscar Esplà" in Allicante (Spain), where he had the change to work with the Maestro José Tomàs, Enrique M. Lop obtained his "Titulo Superior" with the qualifications "Excellent" and "Matricula de Honor. His current dedication is the contemporary music.

As a pedagogue Enrique M. Lop is the Head of the Department of Guitar at the "Conservatori Professional de Música de Vila-seca" (Spain) and the conductor / founder of the guitar-ensembles, "Miquel Llobet" and "Ferràn Sors", at the same institute.
