Griffin Campbell has appeared as a saxophone recitalist throughout the southern, eastern, and central United States and in Japan. Recent performances include solo appearances at the conferences of the World Saxophone Congress, the North American Saxophone Alliance, th Music Educator's National Conference, the Society of Composers, Inc., and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States. Recent premieres include Stephen David Beck's Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra with the LSU Philharmonia conducted by Akira Mori. He has received grants from the Louisiana Foundation for the Arts and from Louisiana State University. His recordings include a CD of saxophone and piano chamber music entitled "Tableaux" with pianist Jan Grimes and a CD of original jazz music with the eXpanded Trio, "are you eXpanded?" Other recordings include Stephen David Beck's Love's Not Time's Fool on the CD "Music from SEAMUS volume 3," Paul Hayden's "Cherubs on the Ceiling" with the Valcour String Quartet on the Centaur CD release "Elegy for Mossland," and Dinos Constantinides's Legend on the cd "Dinos Constantinides: Instrumental Works" with percussionist John Raush.

Griffin Campbell's musical explorations run the full gamut of today's musical language: from classical recital appearances to "Guys w/Big Cars," an experimental/improvisational group exploring relationships among computers, electronics, and live performers; from concerto performance to free jazz with "the eXpanded trio;" from orchestral performance to pop/rock styles.

Griffin Campbell holds degrees from Michigan State University and Pfeiffer College, is the Regional Director for the southeast for the North American Saxophone Alliance, and is an Associate Professor at the LSU School of Music.

Jan Grimes, Professional-in-Residence at the LSU School of Music, received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and her Master of Music degree in piano performance from LSU. She performs regularly in chamber recitals and serves frequently as adjudicator throughout the region. Grimes has accompanied master classes with Josef Gingold, Janos Starker, and Philip Farkas. She has performed with such artists as violinist Yair Kless, director of Israel's Rubin Academy, and cellist Adriana Contino, formerly of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and currently a faculty member of the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik in Freiburg. Recordings include a project of contemporary and traditional saxophone repertoire with LSU faculty member Griffin Campbell, and a compact disc with flutist Katherine Kemler on the Centaur label.

Stephen David Beck's Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra (21 minutes) is an exceptional new work of uncommon beauty. This could quickly become a new standard concerto for saxophonists, but it must be heard by performers in order for the piece to realize its potential. Unlike many other newer concerti for our instrument, the work is performable by relatively minimal forces (can be performed by chamber orchestra, as it was at its premier: see attached list of required personnel). This makes the work possible at many venues, whether with a large professional ensemble or with a small student group. The piece is exceptionally well orchestrated and scored, making performance possible on minimal rehearsal time (the premier was done with a student ensemble in two rehearsals). Yet the piece is musically substantial, melodically and harmonically beautiful, and attractive to the uninitiated listener.
