Brandon Neil Black was born on April 24,1979 in Athens, Alabama. He attended Clements High School in Limestone County and graduated with honors in 1997. While attending high school he participated in several honor bands including All-State. There he earned first chair his senior year in the States top band. Also, that year he was eligible to audition with the state's top instrumentalist for the senior performance scholarship. Brandon was awarded this honor at All-State.

These experiences stimulated his interest in music. He began to strongly pursue music as a saxophonist and the summer of 1997 was accepted to attend Interlochen Arts Camp. The eight week session further influenced his desire to study music and confirmed his pursuit of music as life long career.

He entered the School of Music at the University of Alabama in the Fall of 1997 as a music major. There he became and is currently a student of Dr. Jon Noffsinger. The summer of 1998 he traveled to La Domaine Forget Dance and Music Academy in Canada where he studied saxophone under Jean Marie Londeix, Jean-Francois Guay and Daniel Gordon.

Brandon performed Ida Gotkovsky's Brillance at the Regional VI NASA Saxophone Conference held in Athens, Georgia. Currently he participates in the University of Alabama Wind Ensemble conducted by Dr. Gerald Welker and is the alto saxophonist in a quartet at the University. His hobbies include practicing saxophone, studying music history and listening to classical music.
