The Adolphe Saxquartette has become one or the most exciting new ensembles to emerge in the saxophone quartet genre. Their eclectic programming (ranging from music of the renaissance to the avant-garde to jazz) and their musicianship has attracted the ears of their audiences and the pens of many composers. They have performed at the invitation of the North American Saxophone Alliance at their National Conference and at Merkin Concert Hall.

The Adolphe Saxquartette has been ensemble-in residence to the Britten-on-the-Bay Festival in Amityville, New York since 1994.

Steven Silverstein is well known as an early music specialist having performed with the Western Wind. But, he also performed New-Age music with the Paul Winter Consort, and electronic music with Tom Law. He has made many films and recordings. Mr. Silverstein is also a master intrument builder and holds several patents for his designs.

Tristan Willems has studied saxophone with Alfred Gallodoro and Fred Hemke in the United States. He has performed world premieres of many works for saxophone with orchestra, band and piano at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Smithsonian Institution, and the New York's Merkin Concert Hall.

Robert Ackerman is well known as the "Mouthpiece Doctor", a jazz great, and as an authority onvintage woowind instruments. As a concert musician, he is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient for his compositions, and has performed with both Steve Reich and Phillip Glass ensembles. His recordings are issued on the Progressive Winds, Silkheart, and "4-Tay" labels, and his music is available from Brazinmusikanta Publications.

Gary Smulyan is critically acclaimed as one of the major voices of the baritone saxophone having performed with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz and Jimmy Knepper before joining Woody Herman's Young Thundering Herd. Currently, Mr. Smulyan performs with the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the George Coleman Octet. His four solo recordings on the Criss Cross label have been voted "one of the best" in each of the years that they were issued. He is the winner of the 1990 Jazz Times critic's poll, the 1994 Downbeat critic's poll. He is on the faculty at William Patterson College (NJ).
