Performance practices of early 20th-Century Concert Saxophonists in the United States

Thomas Smialek is Associate Professor of Music & Integrative Arts at The Pennsylvania State University, Hazleton. From 1997-1999 he served as Arts Division Head of Penn State's Commonwealth College.

Dr. Smialek has presented papers and performances at national and regional meetings of the North American Saxophone Alliance, The College Music Society, the Association for Technology in Music Instruction, the American Musicological Society, and the MacBeth National Conference. He has published articles in The Saxophone Symposium and has been a contributor to Saxophone Journal. As a performer, he has premiered works by Robert Lombardo, Timothy Broege, and L. A. Logrande.

Smialek holds degrees from The University of Georgia, Northwestern University, and Westfield State College. He is NASA Director of Scholarly Publications and editor of The Saxophone Symposium.
