Ayant travaillé avec plusieurs musiciens canadiens, américains et européens, Yoko Hirota est une musicienne de chambre active spécialisée en musique du XXe siècle. Elle détient un doctorat en interprétation de l'Université McGill et a aussi obtenu un baccalauréat et une maîtrise du State University of New York at Buffalo.

Yoko Hirota a donné de nombreux concerts, incluant une invitation à l'ambassade du Canada à Tokyo, et a fait des tournées avec des musiciens renommés tels que, Fritz Gearhart, ancien violoniste du Chester Quartet, et le violoncelliste russe Yegor Dyachkov. Elle a récemment joué Joy de Magnus Lindberg avec le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, concert enregistré par Radio-Canada. Depuis les six dernières années, Yoko Hirota met l'accent sur sa collaboration avec Jean François Guay, membre du Quatuor de saxophones Nelligan et président de l'Association des saxophonistes du Québec.

Yoko Hirota a gagné plusieurs prix, récemment une mention spéciale au Clara Lichtenstein Piano Competition à Montréal, et semi-finaliste au Nutley Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition au New Jersey. Elle a également été accompagnatrice et répétitrice au camp d'été pour le Natianal Association of String Orchestra (New York), au Belvoire Art Accademy (Massachusetts) et au Aspen Music School (Colorado), et de la classe de saxophone de Jean-Marie Londeix au Domaine Forget (Québec).

Parallèlement à sa carrière de concertiste, Yoko Hirota a écrit des articles qui ont été publiés dans des revues spécialisées: "Analytical Perspectives on Bartok's Sonata for Violin and Piano, No. 1" dans Acta Musicologica et des comptes rendus dans le International Double Reed Society Journal et le Tuba Journal. Yoko Hirota est présentement accompagnatrice des classes de saxophone à l'Université de Montréal et au CEGEP Marie-Victorin.


Working with many Canadian, American and European musicians, Yoko Hirota has been an active chamber musician, specializing twentieth-century chamber music literature, and received her Doctor of Music in Piano Performance degree from McGill University in 1999. She obtained both Bachelor and Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Ms. Hirota has given numerous concerts, including an invitation-performance at Canadian Embassy in Tokyo in 1996, and played with renoun musicians such as Fritz Gearhart, a former violinist of Chester Quartet, and Yegor Dyachkov, a Russian cellist. Most recently, she played Joy by Magnus Lindberg with the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, recorded for Radio-Canada. For the last six years, Ms. Hirota focuses on her duo-collaborations with Jean-François Guay, a member of Quatuor de saxophones Nelligan and the president of the Association des saxophonistes du Québec.

Yoko Hirota has won several prestigious prizes at piano competitions, most recently a special mention prize at Clara Lichtenstein Piano Competition in Montreal, and a semi-finalist at Nutley Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in New Jersey. As an accompanist and a coach, she has worked at Aspen Music School, the National String Orchestra Association Music Camp in Ithaca, New York. Since 1998, she has been the accompanist for the saxophone class of Jean-Marie Londeix at International Music Festival of Domaine Forget in Quebec.

In addition to her concert career, Ms. Hirota writes several articles which has been published in music journals, such as "Analytical Perspectives on Bartok's Sonata for Violin and Piano, No. 1" in Acta Musicologica and music reviews in International Double Reed Society and Tuba Journal.

Presently Yoko Hirota is the accompanist for saxophone classes of Jean-François Guay at the Université de Montréal and Marie-Victorin College.
