Manuel Rodeiro

Manuel Rodeiro was born in San Xoán de Vilanova, Miño, in 1965.

He has composed works for the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Xunta de Galicia, Centro Dramático Galego, Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea, Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid, I International Harp Festival, 8th International Contemporary Music Festival of Alicante, XV Cycle of Chamber Music and Poliphony at the INAEM, Orquesta y Coros Nacionales de España (a piece commissioned for the opening of the celebrations programmed for the Xacobeo '93), Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (on the occasion of its official opening), etc. His music has been performed in leading concert halls and festivals such as the International Contemporary Music Festival in Alicante, the Contemporary Music Festival in Barcelona, the ENSEMS in Valencia, the International Music Festival in Espinho (Portugal), the Strasbourg Music Festival, the Phantom Arts (USA), among others.

Apart from his work as a composer, Manuel Rodeiro has worked as a critic, organiser and teacher and has published a number of articles and essays in leading publications on contemporary art and music, and has given classes in many centres and institutions. His work in this field is linked to some of the most important initiatives regarding the diffusion of contemporary music in Spain. He founded the publishing house Música Nueva and the instrumental group Cámara XXI and headed the contemporary music section of the review Scherzo (1990-1992). As part of his organizational work, he carried out his most important task to date as head of the Music department of the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, setting up the laboratory for musical creation, the Taller Instrumental (Ensemble CGAC), and editing a number of publications on the music of our time.
