Carlos Micháns

(Argentine/Hollande - Argentina/Holland)

Carlos Micháns (1950) was born in Buenos Aires but currently resides in the Netherlands. In his native Argentina he studied composition with Roberto García Morillo and graduated in conducting at the University of Buenos Aires and the Art Institute of the famed 'Teatro Colón', South America's leading opera house. In 1982 he was awarded a scholarship from the Dutch Ministry of Culture and Science, which enabled him to do postgraduate studies in composition and electronic music with Hans Kox and Ton Bruynèl at the conservatory of Utrecht. His works have won several international prizes and have been performed and broadcast in over sixteen countries of South and North America, Europe and Asia.

Since 1994 he is a permanent guest at institutes of higher education and music associations in India, where he lectures on western music and his own work. He also travels regularly to Argentina with distinguished Dutch musicians to promote the works of composers from both his native and adopted countries. His catalogue comprises around sixty titles. Most of them have been written on commission for internationally renowned soloists, chamber groups and orchestras, and have received their world premieres in major concert halls, like Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Rotterdam's De Doelen, Teatro Colón and Auditorio de Belgrano (Bs. As.), etc.

Since 1995 Carlos Micháns is in charge of 'Podium Neerlandés', a program of the international Dutch radio designed to promote in Latin America the international and Dutch classical repertoire by some of Holland's leading orchestras and ensembles. Micháns's works are published in Holland by Donemus Amsterdam. CD release of his compositions include works for piano, choir, string & saxophone quartet, mixed ensemble and orchestra.
