Teresa LeVelle

Teresa LeVelle holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University in composition, a Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio and a Bachelor of Music degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Her music has been performed throughout the United States as well as New Zealand, Brazil, and Sweden.

LeVelle was the 1996 winner of the Indiana University Dean's Prize for Composition and twice a finalist for the ASCAP Foundation Awards for Young Composers. She has received various commissions, including: a concerto for soprano saxophone and string quartet for David Dees (for the XII World Saxophone Congress in Montreal), Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra, for New Zealand violinist, Mark Menzies, and “Kanza” (flute, soprano saxophone, and cello) for Lisa Garner (for her Carnegie Hall debut). She has been a featured composer on the Toledo New Music Festival, Mid West Composers Symposium, and the Crossroads of Traditions: The Second Inter-American Composition Workshop.

Dr. LeVelle has been a guest composer at The Walden School for young composers in New Hampshire, and this summer at The Yellow Barn Festival in Vermont. Currently, she is Assistant Professor of Music at Whittier College, Whittier, California.
