David Harris

David Harris has composed over 150 pieces for many different ensembles (chamber orchestra, string quartets, piano quintets, brass, choir, multiple pianos, mixed ensembles and percussion, including a percussion concerto), solo instruments (mainly piano and percussion) and one piece "Te Deum" for orchestra, choir and soloists. These works have been performed in various situations; as commissions, as part of composer group concerts, on radio – John Crawford's Random Round and New Music Australia on ABC FM and Notework radio 5UV and overseas performances. Performances include :

Two collaboration events with visual artist Pamela Rataj at the Maarmosal Stuttgart Germany and in St. Denis, Paris.

Compossible IV for twelve musicians, a concert length work for Prinz Georgs Garten in Darmstadt, Germany performed twice during July 1996. A concert of my work in San Diego USA with Vanessa Tomlinson, Shannon Wettstein, David Shively and Mark Osborne in 1996 and 1998. A performance of a piano quintet by Brenton Langbein's Der Kammermusiker in Zurich. Three performances of Compossible IV with Untitled (1600 blue cheesecloth squares) by Pamela Rataj for the 1998 Adelaide Festival.

David Harris has been teaching composition at the Adelaide Institute TAFE School of Music since 1987. David has initiated composition into the School of Music's Advanced Diploma course and now the B.mus course. Building student numbers from zero to many. This has benefited Adelaide's composition community greatly giving students a strong, progressive and very active alternative to the Elder Conservatorium.
