Stacy Garrop

Stacy Garrop (B.M., University of Michigan, 1992; M.A., The University of Chicago, 1995) is currently a D.M. Candidate at Indiana University (she will graduate in May 2000). She is a winner of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's 1999-2000 First Readings Composition Competition (the prize is the world premiere of her orchestra work Thunderwalker by the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in May 2000), won first place (1999 and 1995) and second place (1997) in the International Alliance for Women in Music Search for New Music Competition, and received the University of Chicago's 1994 Olga and Paul Menn Foundation Prize.

Her works were performed in 1999 at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Alberta, Canada), Aspen Music Festival (Aspen, CO), a SOUNDS NEW concert (Kensington, CA), the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 5 Conference (Terre Haute, IN), and the Fifth Annual Musica delle Donne Festival (Hayward, CA). In 2000, her works will be performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance New Millennium Conference (Tucson, AZ), the World Saxophone Congress (Montreal, Canada), the Banff Centre for the Arts, and the College Music Society Central Pacific Chapter Conference (Turlock, CA).

Ms. Garrop recently finished a residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and will be spending the early months of 2000 working on commissions at the MacDowell Colony (NH) and the Millay Colony (NY). Hildegard Publishing Company will publish SEVEN for piano trio in early 2000.
